Morocco Forecasts Higher Grain Output as Rainfall and Dam Levels Improve

Morocco is heading toward an improved agricultural season with forecasts pointing to higher grain production, supported by better rainfall and dam reservoir levels approaching 40%, signaling recovery after years of drought.

A source at the National Interprofessional Cereals Office said that available water resources will primarily support agriculture, noting that cultivated areas in Morocco have reached around three million hectares, reflecting notable improvement compared with previous seasons.

The source expressed optimism that favorable weather conditions in March and April will further boost the prospects of a strong grain harvest in Morocco.

Import policy and market balance

The final crop assessment will be completed after March, while imports currently continue without restrictions to ensure steady domestic supply.

Any protective customs measures will only be implemented after confirming sufficient local production.

According to FAO data, Morocco’s expected grain output for 2025 stands at about four million tons, roughly 27% below the long-term average, while the Ministry of Agriculture projects a possible improvement to around 4.4 million tons following spring rainfall.
